Cover Me Canada: Paul Anka throws out a lifeline

This week Cover Me Canada honoured Paul Anka.

The four remaining groups all covered a Paul Anka hit, and did so in front of the Canadian icon. Anka sat on the judges panel with Jordan Knight, Deborah Cox and Ron Fair.

Here’s my rundown of the show:

First, the four groups performed She’s A Lady together. Anka wrote this hit for Tom Jones.

Ali Milner, Put Your Head On My Shoulder – The group did a rock steady version (apparently it’s sort of ska, sort of reggae). It was different, but cool.

Whosarmy, Lonely Boy – This song was No. 1 in 1959 for Anka. They rocked it out a little and I didn’t like it. The judges raved about it, I didn’t see it.

Warren Dean Flandez, Dianna – Anka wrote this song when he was 15. Warren is talented, but he’s sounding the same to me every song – the only thing different is the background music.

Melanie Morgan Band, Puppy Love – Countryfied as usual. They didn’t change the song up too much and didn’t ruin the song. I thought it was very well done, but they were criticized by the judges.

Now is when we were to find out who the viewers saved and who was sent home. Before this could happen host Nicole Appleton was told the judges was to speak first. Ron Fair congratulated the bands on their journey so far and said they were putting the decision of elimination into Paul Anka’s hands.

Paul said he had talked to the producers and convinced them that all bands should have immunity so there was no elimination this week.
